Murasaki is a Japanese hard rock/heavy metal band from Okinawa, formed in 1970. The band's name translates to Purple, which is an homage to Deep Purple, the bands biggest influence. The bands released two albums in the 70's, a self-titled and Impact, which blended hard rock and early heavy metal. Both of these albums achieved record setting sales in Japan, with rock music just starting to gain popularity in the country.
They disbanded in 1978, and would go on to do the occasional reunion show (1983, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1998, 2000). They reformed in 2007, and adapted a heavier more metal focused sound. They released Purplessence in 2010, their first album since 1976's Impact.
