Wellington, New Zealand's Of Blackest Oceans have been steadily gaining a name for themselves internationally with their own brand of metal, carefully combining the heaviness and melody of metal and other genres, alongside progressive elements such as polyrhythms and time-signature changes.
2010 brought their first EP offering, "Vultures" (mixed and mastered by John Mitchell at Outhouse Studios, behind bands such as Architects UK and The Arusha Accord), which was received positively throughout the New Zealand metal scene and abroad and with positive reviews online and in national music publications. The release of Vultures allowed OBO to seal the first chapter in their existence and finally begin work on new material.
Their next EP was a split featuring fellow Wellingtonians The Dauntless, titled "Storm of the Century", released in 2011. These three new songs showed the direction
