Owl is a solo progressive death metal project from Christian Kolf, a prolific German multi-instrumentalist who has built a strong underground reputation with his main bands Island, Valborg and Woburn House. The self-titled debut album was recorded at DH Studios, January to July 2010, with Kolf handling vocals and all main instruments (guitars, bass, synthesizers). Patrick Schroeder handled session drums.
The first half of "Owl" features 35 minutes of dark and brutal doom-death metal characterized by long adventurous songs and Kolf's signature chromatic riffing style. In total contrast with this dense metallic intensity, the album concludes with a 30 minute progressive ambient piece, very similar to the music that Kolf released in the 2000's under the name of Faser.
