Phantom Lord, who take their name from the Metallica song, were a speed metal and US power metal band from the United States, notable for being a project of guitarist Jack Starr (ex-Virgin Steele, Jack Starr's Burning Starr et al).
The group were born when Dutch East Records commissioned Jack Starr to record them three albums at a reduced cost, each done within twelve hours. Phantom Lord's self-titled debut was one of these, along with Devil Childe's self titled debut and Joe Hasselvander's Lady Killer.
On 1985's Phantom Lord, the band members used false German names.
With the addition of new vocalist John Leone (perhaps better known as the vocalist on Attacker's The Second Coming), Phantom Lord released their second album Evil Never Sleeps in 1986.
Both albums were reissued as a double pack in 2014.
Much of Phantom Lord's material was recycled on Jack Starr's Burning Starr's albums.
