Purpose Effect (PFX) is a 4-piece progressive metal band from Berlin in Germany.
PFX incorporates progressive metal, drum&bass and pop/r&b influences equally into its sound.
Purpose Effect was founded in the spring of 2007 by producer/vocalist Ole "Scabar" Kupfer, multi-instrumentalist/producer Tom "Fountainhead" Geldschläger and drummer Björn Schellinger.
After two years of rehearsing and songwriting PFX recorded its debut 4-song EP as a trio, augmented by session bass-players Guido Nerger and Jacob Schmidt. In the summer of 2009 Peter Geltat joined the line-up as second guitar player.
Purpose Effect cites an eclectic range of influences on its Soundclick site: progressive rock and metal like King Crimson or Pain Of Salvation, drum&bass and electronic music like Squarepusher or Nerve, soul/hip-hop/R&B like D´Angelo or Prince, jazz-fusion/avantgarde like Allan Holdsworth or Dave Weckl, contemporary pop and rock music like Dredg or Muse.
