Revolution Renaissance was Timo Tolkki's first new project after his dispute and eventual split with Stratovarius. Towards the end of his time with Stratovarius, he had been working on a new album, said to be in the style of their earlier works, as at the time band had been going through an experimental period. The band had recorded a demo version of this album titled Revolution Renaissance. After the split, Timo decided to take everything he had written for his new album, and started a new project with the same name. In 2008, with the help of various guests, the new album was released, with a different name: New Era.
Later in 2008, Timo started putting together a new lineup, which included Gus Monsanto (Vocals), Justin Biggs (Bass), Mike Khalilov (Keyboards) and Bruno W. Agra (drums). With this new lineup in place, they began working on a new album
