In about 1976 a highly developed form of Heavy Rock of mainly English and American origins become seriously unfashionable. This was understandable in the sense that a lot of it was produced by genuinely boring, pompous, middle-class hippies. But justice is always in short supply and many bona fide street level heavy bands attracted the contempt of the 'radical' (i.e. corrupt, venal and fashion conscious) music media. Not surprisingly, the hacks were unable to tell the difference between, on the one hand, the pseudo-classical non-rock and non-sense that should have been flushed down the pan, and, on the other, genuine and worthwhile developments. The little that was bad in rock was wrapped up in all that was good, and the whole bundle was consigned to the dustbin of history. 1976 became Rock n' Roll's 'Year Zero'.
