Legendary Australian rockers Rose Tattoo came blasting out of Sydney in 1976, led by larger than life vocalist Angry Anderson, mixing streetwise pub rock with a bit of punk fury and AC/DC's blues influenced hard rock.
Only slide guitarist Peter Wells survived from Rose Tattoo's original 1976 line up to record the band's 1978 debut self-titled album. Vocalist Tony Lake was soon replaced by Anderson, (ex-Buster Brown), rhythm guitarist Leigh Johnson was replaced by Mick Cocks, bass player Ian Rilen, who had taught himself how to play whilst in prison, was replaced by Geordie Leach, and drummer Michael Vandersluys was replaced by Digger Royal.
"Rose Tattoo" was released in November 1978, and reached the top 40 Australian album chart. Australian, European and American tours followed. The album was released as "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw" in some markets, and in 1981 peaked at number 2 in France, 5 in Germany, and 60 in
