Formed in 1996 by bassist/vocalist John Cooper and guitarist Ken Steorts, Skillet are a popular Christian rock band who have encompassed many genres over the course of their career. These include alternative metal, hard rock, symphonic rock, and even occasional grunge and post-grunge influences. While the band's older material was characterized primarily by hard rock and alternative rock influences, their fifth album Collide saw them moving in a more metal-oriented direction similar to the alternative metal and nu-metal bands of the day. This would continue with Comatose and, to a lesser extent, Awake.
Skillet's current line-up consists of John Cooper on bass and vocals, Korey Cooper on keyboards and rhythm guitar, Jen Ledger on drums, and Seth Morrison on lead guitar.
