UK act SLEDGEHAMMER was formed in Slough some time late in the 1970's by Mike Cooke (guitar, vocals), Terry Pearce (bass) and Ken Revell (drums), and got quite a lot of attention at the dawn of the movement known as New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Their first single "Sledgehammer" from 1979, reissued by record label Valiant in 1980, got a buzz going, and some good opening slots at concerts helped a buzz developing.
They were invited to contribute to the compilation album Metal for Muthas, assembled by EMI Records, which gave this fledgling outfit even more PR. Around that time Pearce left the band, replaced by Gerry Sherwin (bass). But by the end of the year Pearce returned, in time to partake on their second single "Living in Dreams".
