Sons of Liberty is the solo project of Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth/Demons & Wizards fame, which he began in 2009. Schaffer performs vocals, guitars and drum programming on the debut album Brush-fires of the Mind, which was originally released as a free download in 2009, with the option of obtaining a higher quality download in exchange for a donation. It was later released on CD and vinyl in 2010.
The music of Sons of Liberty is very politically themed, with Brush-Fires of the Mind being a concept album about corrupt world leaders holding the rest of the world in slavery.
Despite Schaffer's status as the only official member of the band, Sons of Liberty also performs live. For these performances Schaffer performs only the vocals, with mainly Iced Earth bandmates joining him on stage. The current live band consists of Schaffer (vocals), Troy Seele (guitar), Matt O'Rourke (guitar), Freddie Vidales (bass)
