Sudden Death were founded by bassist John Binkley and Tim Lavrouhin (drums), in California, 1970.
Originally a covers band, they played the music of Hendrix, The Doors, Cream, and Blue Cheer among others.
Soon, they recruited guitarist Joey Dunlop, and vocalist Dave Marci, a blues singer. However, they soon determined that a different voice was required to suit the heavier music, and Greg Magie Hollyoodiano replaced Marci.
Shortly afterwards, Tim Lavrouhin left, and was replaced by Charlie Brown - who was recruited after the band saw his Volkswagen Beetle with a drum kit stuffed into the back.
In 1972, the band attracted the attention of talent scout, Kim Fowley, who was "looking for the next Black Sabbath". Sudden Death recorded their first demo in the space of 6 hours, with no overdubs.
In 1973, they recorded a demo of a song called Heavy Metal Kids.
