Thee Plague of Gentlemen was a doom metal band from Belgium, formed in 1998. They split up in 2006, when frontman Steve Mac was "arrested and imprisoned for criminal acts that none of the members could ever imagine to happen and which are totally unacceptable. Therefore we all dissociate ourselves from all his acts, deeds and comments." They formed the new band Serpentcult (it should be the name of the second TPOG album), in more traditional doom metal style.
Beyond heavy Doom outfit that has quickly gathered an underground following with their extremely powerful live performances. When they are on a stage it is hard to get around them and the sheer thickly layered sonic attack they unleash upon their audience. Musically they play Doom in the vein of Electric Wizard, very thick unrelenting and very heavy Doom. The music has less of a "stoner-vibe" however and is more energetic.
