Thränenkind (meaning Child of Tears) was a German depressive black metal / blackgaze / atmospheric sludge metal band from Aichach in Bavaria, active from 2007 to 2017.
The band changed its name to King Apathy, after their final album as Thränenkind. The band's music blended elements of multiple styles, notably various kinds of black metal, with influences ranging from depressive to blackgaze. Other genres they incorporated include atmospheric sludge metal, post-rock and post-punk. The band's first album The Elk was released in 2013.
In 2016 they released their second album King Apathy, and later changed their name to this title.
