Uphill Battle was a mathcore / screamo band with elements of grindcore and noisecore. The group was based out of Santa Barbara, California, USA.
Uphill Battle was formed in early 1999 as Crawlspace and changed its name soon afterwards. The band split up in 2005, although they reunited in 2010 to do three reunion shows.
Uphill Battle got some recognition releasing their self-titled record on Relapse Records. Combining grindcores speed and severity with a hardcore sense of tension, Uphill Battle’s hectic riffing, strafing percussive assault and tortured vocals bled conviction and proved the band to be one of the scene’s brightest hopefuls. A high-profile tour slot as part of the 2003 Relapse Records Contamination Tour alongside label-mates Mastodon, Cephalic Carnage and Dysrhythmia immediately followed, exposing the band to entirely new audiences, who ambitiously enjoyed the band’s devastating live performances.
