After As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis was arrested on May 8, 2013 the remaining members, Nick Hipa, Phil Sgrosso, Josh Gilbert and Jordan Mancino, started jamming with Shane Blay of Oh, Sleeper. The band intended to be a supergroup with a goal to record and release material which did not fit into As I Lay Dying trademark extreme metal sound. Wovenwar became a full-time project when Lambesis plead guilty on February 25, 2014 and faced a six-year prsion term.
