Considered as one of the founding father of Bay Area thrash metal, Laaz Rockit unleashed their debut, "City's Gonna Burn", in 1984, with a breakthrough breed of traditional heavy metal with a furious riffs pattern and fast-paced drumming that later influenced the big process of power and thrash metal creation. The strong point of this album is the introduction of Michael Coons powerful and distinctive vocal as well as some killer solos provided by Jellum/Kettner.

Excellent tracks inside are "Take No Prisoners", a real example of early genuine thrash with an incredible solos; "Forced To Fight" with a dynamic tempo; and "Prelude" that started slow before exploding to an uptempo track with another slaughtering solos. However, this album also experimenting with some heavy metal tracks such as the title track, "Caught In The Act", and "Something More" and even though they aren't bad, it's not very good either, probably generic and mediocre at best.

"City's Gonna Burn" is an inspiring album but the band is still looking for their true identity here. The sound and style is raw, indicating an evolution in progress. Another low point is this album is far too short for a full-length release and with only 3 outstanding tracks, I don't think this album worth more than 3 stars, but it's always nice to know and listen to the early history of an influential band.
