Lyrics:
Inconvenience has shown its ugly face again
I won’t give time to the lesser than
My circle closed as tight as my mind
If Heaven opens, I’m first in line
Broadbrusher
“They’re all just like the rest”
Fearmonger
“They’re nothing but a threat”
I won’t let you ruin my perfect world
Malice for those who breathe the air I breathe
Malice for through whose eyes I fail to see
Malice for anyone who’s unlike me
Malice cus I won’t turn the other cheek
Heal the hurt, feed the sick
Leave me out of it
Don’t bother me with your faith unfurled
Let them crawl
Let them die
I don’t want to see it
You won’t ruin my perfect world
Do you think Jesus chose a side amongst the sinners He would dine?
Malice for those who breathe the air I breathe
Malice for through whose eyes I fail to see
Malice for anyone that’s unlike me
Malice cus I won’t turn the other cheek
Bitterness, resentment
Coming from a place of privilege
Lacking empathic vision for the least of us all
Claiming you are set apart, but forgetting your Master’s heart
You missed the point
“I never knew you”
Pride will come before the fall

Behind the Song:
"Malice" is based on Jesus' words in Matthew chapter 25. Toward the end of the chapter He tells His disciples a story, comparing Himself to a king rewarding his servants who took care of him. The twist is that he is actually rewarding those who cared for the least in his kingdom, caring for the poor and basically just putting pride aside.
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me," he said.
The servants in the story were confused because they didn't recall any of that happening. Jesus answered by saying, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
I wrote Malice after being increasingly heartbroken by society's apathy toward homelessness, drug addiction and other issues. In an increasingly hostile political climate, an existing negativity toward others unlike us has at times turned to malicious words or action. We all have to do better, and Christians have no excuse, given our Savior's example. This will be a theme on this fall's EP.
Ephesians 4:31-32 puts it best:
"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you."
