“A Drowning Smile” is the third single off the upcoming Kilpréz debut album, Patron Saint of Lost Causes.
After two shorter singles from the sassier side of the album’s stylistic spectrum, “A Drowning Smile” is the record's longest song and introduces elements that weren’t present in the previous singles.
Within its different styles and sprawling arrangement, the song explores the parallels between the feelings experienced in the pandemic lockdown and the roller coaster of mental health struggles. The simultaneous relief of a comfort zone of misery and the underlying knowledge that in the long run, something’s gotta change.
About Kilpréz:
On a mission to inject emotive sass into the aggressive complexity of mathcore and prog metal, Kilpréz is a project born out of a passion for bands that cannot be easily pinned down, yet have a clear identity.
Born in Iceland and based in Stockholm, multi-instrumentalist Jon Thor Sigurleifsson is releasing Patron Saint of Lost Causes, his debut full length album under the Kilpréz moniker, on the 27th of August.
Armed with an 8 string guitar, 6 string bass and vocals ranging from piercing shrieks and thundering bellows to vulnerable cleans and sassy diatribes, these songs are inspired by both personal experiences and a frustration with the state of the world.
Kilpréz takes inspiration from a wide variety of music but most prominent are The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Sikth and Between the Buried and Me.
