SUMERIAN RECORDS has signed Ottawa, Canada's progressive rock sextet, THE KINDRED. Formerly known as Today I Caught The Plague, the band is no stranger to road or studio. They successfully self-financed a full-length disc in 2011, which cultivated tours with bands such as Protest the Hero, The Devin Townsend Project, Periphery, The Faceless, Jeff Loomis and Scale the Summit. The group's well-proven work ethic and sustainable functionality as a unit speaks for itself on their upcoming release; an album which seamlessly and tastefully blends modern progressive elements, while at times creating tones reminiscent of classic artists such as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
The band's upcoming record was handled by producer John Paul Peters (Propaghandi, Comeback Kid). JP's knowledge and skill, combined with the contribution of several incredible orchestral players, gave the group just the right amount of creative freedom to allow for a whole new level of musical growth. THE KINDRED will release their debut album this fall on Sumerian Records.
David Journeaux (vocals) states: "I remember when we were writing material for our independent full-length, LORE, having multiple conversations about Sumerian Records as a label, and how well they seemed to work with their bands. Those conversations always ended with some variation of the statement 'it would be great if we could get ourselves onto their roster'. Knowing this, you can imagine how we felt when we first heard from the label. From that initial correspondence forward, we only had the best experiences in dealing with the people at Sumerian and we're quite excited to move forward with everything that's to come. As a group, we've always been really proud of what we've been able to achieve for ourselves, but now, with the support of an entity like Sumerian, we seem to be closer and closer to realizing some of the bigger goals that we've always had for ourselves."

LYRICS:
Just look how everything can change;
perspectives, falling through with age.
The only constant from the start,
are driving forces deep in heart.
Oh, oh no, there is no permanence,
keeping us steady,
no moment's ever the same —
embrace the shift.
To truly see from every side,
invest yourself in patient time,
for all mysteries which 'lone confound,
lie answers in collective sound.
Oh, oh no, there is no permanence,
keeping us steady,
no moment's ever the same,
I'm philosophically evolving,
and gaining wisdom by observing everything,
interacting without conscious reactions;
like the hindrance
compounding upon
the suffering still chasing,
after external contentment.
As years pass by,
what is is was revised.
years pass by,
what was is changed.
As years pass by,
what is is was revised.
As years pass by,
what was gives rise,
to now.
Manifesting existence from within,
and pulling all of everything that's dreamt
to waking state;
not seeking with childish eyes,
which only once failing beg for closeness,
but studying,
inner detail,
to make clear
every resistance to intrinsic flow.
Oh, I know now to prize impermanence;
to hold no moment ever the same, oh no.
I know now to prize impermanence;
to hold no moment ever the same, oh no.
I know now to prize impermanence;
to hold no moment ever the same, oh no.
I know now to prize impermanence;
to hold no moment ever the same.
