UMUR
"The Purity of Perversion" is the debut full-length studio album by Belgian death metal act Aborted. The album was released through Uxicon Records in May 1999. "The Purity of Perversion" features an incredibly gory and offensive front cover artwork (even for Aborted´s standards) which imediately sets the blood soaked tone for the album if the album title or songtitles like "Necro-Eroticism" and "Gurgling Rotten Feces" haven´t already given that away.
The music on "The Purity of Perversion" is strongly influenced by the gore grinding death metal of "Symphonies of Sickness (1989)"/"Necroticism - Descanting of the Insalubrious (1991)"-era Carcass. Predominantly by the sound on the former mentioned release album though. The vocal style which alternates between high pitched aggressive sneering and deep guttural growling is in the vein of Carcass and the goregrind/death metal music style is also very similar to Carcass trademark style. There´s an obvious clone factor here, that can´t be denied but "The Purity of Perversion" still comes off as decent quality release featuring some brutal and catchy tracks. It´s arguably a pretty standard release for the genre but well played and powerful.
The sound production is of a good quality too. Again pretty standard for the genre but professional and well sounding. The inclusion of horror movie samples on the tracks work really well for Aborted and provide the music with an extra eerie atmosphere.
Upon conclusion "The Purity of Perversion" is a surprisingly good quality release by Aborted. I honestly expected a much more lo-fi and primitive recording. That´s not the case here at all and while "The Purity of Perversion" seldom reach the excellent mark, it´s certainly a decent goregrind/death metal album deserving a 3 star (60%) rating.
