"Laceration / Agoraphobic Nosebleed" is a split release between US, Alabama based hardcore act Laceration and US, Massachusetts based grindcore act Agoraphobic Nosebleed. The split was released through Satan's Pimp Records in 1997.
The split features 7 Laceration tracks and stylistically it´s pretty simplistic and aggressive hardcore. The tracks are short (all 7 are done playing in around 3 minutes), featuring organic and slightly sloppy playing, and a raw shouting vocalist in front. It´s not the most unique or the most interesting hardcore I´ve heard in this genre, but it´s decent enough.
Agoraphobic Nosebleed also deliver 7 tracks, and there´s a powerviolence edge to their grindcore style which I haven´t heard on any of their preceding releases. It´s actually pretty interesting how different their early releases sound. They deliver an ultra aggressive powerviolence attack and especially the vocals are caustic and hateful. On top of the fast-paced, chaotic sounding hardcore/grindcore it´s a powerful and effective combination.
Upon conclusion it´s the Agoraphobic Nosebleed part of the split that´s worth the price of admission. The Laceration part isn´t bad, but it´s not great either. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
