"Thank God It's Monday" is the debut full-length studio album by Finnish thrash metal act Airdash. The album was released through Kerberos Records in 1988. Airdash was along with Stone one of the most prolific Finnish metal acts in the eighties/early nineties although they never achieved international success (nor mainstream success like Stone did). They released three albums in the period 1988 - 1991 before disbanding in 1992.
The music on "Thank God It's Monday" is pretty straight forward thrash metal strongly influenced by the Bay Area scene and especially early Testament comes to mind. When the band goes down a more humourous road as they do on a track like "Helluva Noise" there are clear references to Anthrax in the music too (for instance the riot gang vocals on that track) So this is US influenced thrash metal to the bone. The band are technically well playing but lead vocalist Juha Laine has a pretty ordinary voice and delivery. His singing style suits the music though so it´s not a major issue.
The sound production is relatively powerful and considering the fact that "Thank God It's Monday" was recorded and mixed in 87 hours at Millbrook Studio in Helsinki in June 1988, it´s actually a very decent sounding release. What Airdash lack on "Thank God It's Monday" is a unique sound. They don´t exactly come off original sounding, but if you enjoy technically well played US influenced thrash metal this is still a pretty great release and a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
