By 2001 Columbia had compiled the Alice In Chains output into one three CD box set and one single CD compilation which took the best bits of that said box. So they saw there was market for a proper Greatest Hits compilation. But if one happened to take a look at the song list of this new compilation, one might have noticed that nine of these ten songs were released two years previously on the Nothing Safe one CD compilation by the very same company. So first they released a three CD box, narrowed it down into one hour long compilation and then saw it necessary to trim the fat off that one and so was born Greatest Hits.
This was a completely pointless compilation when conceived, and as Columbia has since put out yet another AIC compilation, this time the double CD called Essential Alice in Chains which judging by the track listing seems like a very good one, this piece of plastic is no more just useless, it is ridiculous. Thumbs up on the honesty, this compilation really includes the Greatest Hits and absolutely nothing more. The band had quite many other good songs to fill the remaining thirty minutes of available space, but apparently it was not worth the trouble.
One star for the great music inside but as good compilations go this one is at the bottom of the barrel. Avoid unless you're a die hard completionist.
