Bombs away...
Genre: traditional heavy metal
"This is Thirteen" is a hard rocking in-yer-face classic metal album which contains several nods towards Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC and a lot of other hard rock heroes to which the metal genre owes everything. Still it's unmistakably an original Anvil effort, which contains numerous Anvil-style guitar riffs.
The title track is a heavy affair which reminds one of Black Sabbath and, perhaps, Heaven and Hell in heaviness, while the next couple of tracks a re more uptempo. Especially "Bombs Away" is cool - it has a really cool Anvil-style chorus and Lips' voice, while a bit harried by the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, suits it perfectly. The same can be said about "Worry" and the semi-punky "Flying Blind". My favorite on this album is "American Refugee" which is very simple but very catchy.
"This is Thirteen" is a great metal album, kicking guitar riffs and metal drums in your face. If you like traditional metal, you're probably going to love "This Is Thirteen".
