UMUR
"Conjuration" is a 7 track, 29:43 minutes long EP release by Polish death metal act Behemoth. The EP was released through Regain Records in September 2003. It´s the first Behemoth release on the label. "Conjuration" bridges the gap between the band´s 6th and 7th full-length studio albums "Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond) (2002)" and "Demigod (2004)".
The EP features one original track, two cover tracks, recorded during the recording sessions for "Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond) (2002)", and four live tracks recorded at the Mystic Festival on the 13th of October 2001. The original track titled "Conjuration ov Sleep Daemons" could easily have been featured on "Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond) (2002)". It´s a great blackened death metal track fully on par with the rest of the tracks on the album. The cover tracks are "Wish" by Nine Inch Nails and maybe more predictable "Welcome to Hell" by Venom. Both are decent but I would much rather have heard more original material by the band. The four live tracks feature a good sound quality. They are actually pretty great. "Satanica (1999)" and "Thelema.6 (2000)" are each represented with two tracks.
Upon conclusion I´d call "Conjuration" a fan release. Casual listeners are adviced to check out the band´s full-length releases instead, even though both the studio tracks and the live tracks are of good quality. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is still warranted though as there are quite a bit of good quality material featured on the EP.
