UMUR
"Razor to Oblivion" is an EP release by US thrash/hardcore act Black Breath. The EP was released through Hot Mass Recordsin November 2008. It´s the band´s first release.
The music on the album is a thrash/hardcore hybrid that sounds a bit like Motörhead on steroids meets Entombed. A kind of filthy and really raw punked thrash´n´roll with a slight twist of death metal added for good measure. The vocal delivery is caustic and venomous. Although the vocals are really raw, they are still intelligible. This is not unintelligible growling vocals. The music is predominantly really fast-paced and energetic, but there are also mid-paced and more heavy parts in the songs. The punked D-beat rhythms played by the drummer are really charming and drive the music forward nicely. The EP features 4 tracks and while the variation between tracks isn´t Black Breath´s major active, all 4 tracks kick ass to say the least. I would give my right arm to see Black Breath in a live environment, because that´s where I think you´ll get the full experience of their music.
In addition to the really enjoyable and aggressive vocals, the instrumental part of the music is also performed on a technically good level and with fierce passion to boot. Black Breath are a tight playing unit. You can sense that they mean it when they play. The sound production is also raw and powerful. I can´t think of a more suiting sound for the tracks on "Razor to Oblivion".
"Razor to Oblivion" is a great first release by Black Breath and while a full 4 star (80%) rating might be a bit too much, a 3.5 star (70%) rating is fully deserved. If you need a kick in the butt or a slap in the face "Razor to Oblivion" will do the trick. A promising start to Black Breath´s recording career.
