Invocation of the demons of the past...
Genre: early black metal
You may have heard about Helhammer. You have probably heard about Celtic Frost. And you most certainly have heard about Venom. But there was one other band who dabbled in early black metal - namely Black Burn, who were active in the Berlin underground scene of the 1980s and remained obscure to most of the world. "The Invocation" is actually an old demo from 1985, which has recently been released as a sort of compilation release by High Roller Rrecords.
"The Invocation" was in many ways ahead of its time, offering a type proto-extreme metal, featuring harsh vocals and music falling somewhere between thrash metal, early death metal, early black metal, power metal and traditional metal. While the music can be compared to Hellhammer and Venom, Black Burn are actually much tighter and less sloppy, operating at a much technical level.
Black Burn's "The Invocation" spreads darkness again, and fans of Possessed, Hellhammer, Venom and early Celtic Frost should are bound to enjoy this dark gem of demonic evil.
