"Genocide" is the 4th full-length studio album by Norwegian black metal act Bloodthorn. The album was released through Morningstar Records in February 2006.
I understand that the earlier releases by the band included keyboards and a female singer and that they probably are most correctly tagged symphonic black metal. "Genocide" is however a more stripped down release and what you get here is fast-paced war themed blasting blackened death metal. Raw and aggresssive with equal amounts of elements from black and death metal. No keyboards and no female singer. This is "in your face" and fiercely aggressive.
The only flaw on this album is that the tracks sound a bit too much the same. They are hard to tell apart even after many spins. But the quality is high throughout and with a powerful and raw sound production, in addition to the excellent musicianship, "Genocide" is quite a great album by Bloodthorn. Had there been just a bit more variation between the tracks I would have given a full 4 star (80%) rating but as it is I´ll give a 3.5 star (70%) rating and call it fair. I still find "Genocide" highly recommendable to fans of the genre.
