"Brutality Version 2" is the second demo recording by US, Tampa, Florida based death metal act Brutality. The demo was released in April 1988. It´s a re-recording of the January 1988 "Brutality Version 1" demo, which the band opted to do, because the master tape for the original demo broke after only 50 copies were made. This April 1988 version of the demo was made in 750 copies.
So it´s the exact same four-song tracklist, but the recordings are different. Tim Mitchell has been added as a second guitarist between the two demo recordings, but that doesn´t mean the tracks sound much different from the January 1988 versions. The sound quality is raw and unpolished, and this is a very basic rehearsal room demo recording. Stylistically this is still pretty far from the death metal style of subsequent Brutality releases, so think old Venom or something in that vein, and you´re halfway there.
The original demo is probably nearly impossible to track down, but the tracks are included on the 2011 "The Demos" compilation album, which have made them more widely available. A 2 star (40%) rating is warranted.
