PIKE 128 - TUCKED INTO DREAMS is the 27th album released by BUCKETHEAD in 2015. Another all instrumental album where BUCKETHEAD plays all instruments. This one clocks in around the half hour mark at 30:03 and contains six tracks.
Track one “Frontierland” is a very mellow and slow-tempo guitar track with accompanying bass and drum and i guess i could call this slowcore but it’s in no rush to go anywhere. At 6:48 is the second longest track but really never takes off. This sounds like the DREAMS part of the title is the theme as it is a snail-paced space rock with a few of those reverb synth sounds in the background like Steve Hillage used in Gong but can really only be heard when the other instruments take a pause.
The title track is next and at 12:49 is the longest track. This one pretty much continues in the same kinda slow paced space rock with echo guitars, bass and drums. This one is definitely one for a meditative state. It goes on and on and you certainly have to be in the right mood for it because it is passive music. Personally i find it goes on too long although the echoes and reverb is nicely done.
Track three “Gills” pretty much follows suite and makes a shorter 4:03 track of spacey echoey guitar, bass and drums. This one has a few stop / go sections but is basically the same. Yawn.
Track four “Fog” is short at 1:51 and basically continues the mellow space rock. This one has that staccato clucking technique and lots of echo guitar. OK because it’s the right length.
Track five “Pale Hill” is another short track at 2:56. Just like the rest. Slow, echoey. Tame. Zzzzzz.
Track six “Sand” is another shorty at 1:36. More spacey guitar but no bass or drums. Pointless.
Although this is a lot like previous albums “Colma” and “The Left Panel” which i found irritating and beyond boring, this one has interesting effects and echoes and brings out the spaciness better, however at the end of the day, this is still a fairly average album that doesn’t excite me very much.
