BUCKETHEAD - PIKE 59 - YDRAPOEJ 18th album out of 60 in 2014 and 89th overall All sounds brought to you by Buckethead and all instrumental This one has 10 tracks that clock in at 29:14 All tracks are titled ID plus numbers 1 thru 10 The title is “Jeopardy” backwards

“ID 1” starts off with an dungeony electronic version of the music from the TV game show “Jeopardy” when they do the final question of the day round before bursting into heavy metal and then begins jumping all over the place. This is one of those cool albums where things change up quickly but this is so fast and so all over the place jumping from metal to funk to total dissonant breakdown that i doubt very few will have the patience to follow. This is literally music for the insane. I think i am because i LOVE it! It really doesn’t get any weirder or alien than this except for possible the Boredoms early releases which could possibly be an influence given all the Japanese script on the cover.

There is absolutely no need to cover this one track by track because this album is in effect one wild roller coaster ride through a million ideas that basically last for a few measures each. While heavy metal outbursts appear and disappear alternating with hard rock, electronic noise and dissonant free jazz guitar, there are also acoustic melodic guitar segments that actually last for a little while before jumping back into the musical blender that can dish out some funk for 3 seconds, then a sizzling metal guitar solo for 5 seconds and then a 10 minute alien electronica freak out. Perhaps a 15 second sustained guitar chord and then a solo drum beat and then a hard rock riff and then a post-rock atmospheric segment. In effect separate tracks are rendered meaningless as there is absolutely no structure on this album. It is literally snippets of random music tidbits all sewn together like Frankenstein’s face

While i love these wild and adventurous PIKEs, i have to admit that albums like “Factory” that add the benefit of song structure to the mix are more effective but this one excels at being utterly unpredictable and exceptionally unorthodox in every way. The only thing that even comes close in comparison are albums like “Pop Tatari” and “Chocolate Synthesizer” by the Boredoms where the only constant is utter chaos and unpredictability. While this is hardly music that a sane mind could stomach on a sustained daily basis, this has a perverse and sadistic attraction to it. With no song structures to latch onto, this is in effect a sonic kaleidoscope of musical styles where at every turn a seemingly random barrage of noise morphs into something completely different. Truly intended for only the most extreme and adventurous seekers of the bizarre and unrelenting world of the avant-garde. NETSIL to this if you ERAD but be DENRAW that your YTINAS may be in YDRAPOEJ :o
