UMUR
"Stillborn Revelations" is the debut full-length studio album by Swedish death metal act Carve. The album was released through Black Hole Productions in 2002. Carve were a relatively short lived act as they only existed from 2000 to 2004 and released two demos and two full-length studio albums in that period. They were basically a temporary version of Paganizer, which functioned while Paganizer were shortly on hold. Both Carve and Paganizer feature prolific Swedish guitarist/vocalist Roger "Rogga" Johansson (Demiurg, Ribspreader, The Grotesquery...etc.). Both lead guitarist Andreas Carlsson and drummer Matthias Fiebig were also featured in both acts at the time.

If you are familiar with Paganizer or most of Johansson´s other projects it´ll be no surprise to you that the music on "Stillborn Revelations" is old school death metal. It´s relatively well played, it features a very raw sounding production, and the songwriting is basic and to the point ("Stillborn Revelations" is in the more sophisticated end of his output though). It´s slightly different from Johansson´s most savage and simple old school death metal projects, as I´m not instantly reminded that it´s one of his projects, but after a couple of spins I do hear the trademarks, that almost always grace the output by the prolific musician.

"Stillborn Revelations" is overall not the most exciting death metal release out there and it´s not the most exciting release featuring Johansson either, but it is a raw and pretty powerful death metal release that´s enjoyable while it plays. Had the songwriting been more defined and catchy this could have received a bit more praise from me, but as it is now I´d say a 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
