"World Declension" is the eighth full-length studio album by Swedish death metal act Centinex. The album was released through Candlelight Records USA in June 2005. It´s the successor to "Decadence - Prophecies of Cosmic Chaos" from February 2004. There´s been one lineup change since the predecessor as drummer Kennet Englund has been replaced by Ronnie Bergerstål. "World Declension" would be Centinex last release in a number of years as they disbanded in April 2006. Three of the members of the lineup who recorded this album eventually went on to form Demonical and continued their career in that band. Centinex ultimately reformed, but it wasn´t until 2014 they would return with their ninth full-length studio album "Redeeming Filth".
If you´re familiar with the sound of the last couple of Centinex albums and especially the sound and style on "Decadence - Prophecies of Cosmic Chaos" it won´t be a surprise to you that Centinex play a melodic yet still relatively brutal and aggressive type of death metal with both raw snarling and deeper growling vocals. Centenix are a well playing unit and lead vocalist Johan Jansson delivers his parts with conviction. He is not a partularly distinct sounding extreme metal vocalist but he masters quite a few styles, which provides the music with some variation.
"World Declension" is well produced, featuring a powerful, raw, and brutal sounding production job, which suits the material well, and upon conclusion it´s another solid release from Centinex. It´s unfortunately also another relatively unremarkable release from Centinex and although they got the basics of the genre covered and no one can accuse them of producing bad quality music, there´s just very little here which you would recognise as being Centinex playing if you didn´t already know. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
