Ah, the 90's, the golden age of industrial metal. Bands like Ministry, Godflesh, Fear Factory, Pitchshifter, KMFDM, and many others were at the top of their game. One of the lesser known bands that were also at the top of their game was Circle of Dust with their masterpiece Brainchild. At this time, Circle of Dust fit well along the lines of Ministry-esque industrial thrash albeit with a bit more of a range of electronics. The band broke up in '98 for multiple reasons, with frontman Klayton going solo as Celldweller.
Now, Klayton is back with Circle of Dust, releasing singles until the new album is released. How does their return fare? I'd say they came, saw, and kicked ass.
Take some brutal thrashings of Slayer, a bit of classic Stabbing Westward, and some of the experimental aspects of Celldweller and you have "Contagion". Klayton's vocals are quite varied, he can go from clean Trent Rezor-esque sneers to guttural screams. The Slayer-esque riffs will tear your skin, and the rapid speed of the guitars and drums towards the end will blast your skull.
Circle of Dust has certainly come back with a bang, and brings one of the most intense industrial thrash metal songs I've heard in a while. If you like industrial, thrash, or both, do yourself a favor and check this killer track out. Can't wait for the new album.
