Primeval Scum
It's sad how underappreciated Cirith Gorgor's work is in the black metal community. They've been putting out solid material for years with little recognition in return. Unveiling The Essence is a very good album for those who like black metal that is melodic without losing its frosty bite. Cirith Gorgor reminds me of somewhat Immortal in how their riffs and vocals are catchy and memorable without compromising their ferocity. "Into a Nightly Silence" is an absolutely amazing song and is the centerpiece holding this album together. "Bellum Germanicum" and "A Twilight Serenade" (dat guitar solo) are the other two highlights that come to mind. None of the other four tracks (minus the instrumental interlude) are bad, but aren't quite as memorable as the aforementioned three.
Overall, this is a solid slab raw yet melodic black metal. Recommended for people who are into that sort of thing. Make sure you listen to tracks 5 and 6 - that's easily the strongest section of the album. 3.7/5
