Genre: instrumental metal / progressive metal
Sylvain Cloux, the person behind Cloux, is a guitarist who, in addition to performing in a number of bands of various genres, releases instrumental heavy metal albums on his own every now and then.
"Chromosome" is one such album, and it contains eleven hardrocking metal songs, which are progressively oriented. Cloux makes use of elements from all over the metal palette, ranging from chucking thrash metal riffage over groovy nu metal sections to traditional heavy metal and hardrock based riffs. Although the tracks are instrumental, and not as complex as heavy metal instrumentals tend to be, "Chromosome" never gets boring to listen to. There is just enough variation to make it worthwhile and the degree of complexity is low enough for most people to follow it.
This is an instrumental album, so those who are used to more mainstream-ish music may not like it, but I think it will appeal to fans of the likes of Vai and Satriani and especially to those who are looking to get into instrumental metal but are not quite ready for Satriani, Vai, or Kong for tha matter.
