"Foregone Semblances" is a two track EP release by Portugese death/extreme metal act Colosso. The EP was independently released and is available both digitally and on 7" vinyl limited to 100 copies (50 white and 50 transparent red). Colosso was formed in 2011 as a one-man artist, but has since grown into a four-piece act.
The music on "Foregone Semblances" is technical/progressive death metal with a few nods towards the Meshuggah school of playing. The A side track "Circles of Defeat" is predominantly a technical death metal track with growling vocals, while the B side track "Four Edges of Defeat" is an instrumental technical/progressive metal track.
The band is a very well playing unit, and the technical level of playing is high for all involved musicians. The music is well produced and again I´m reminded of contemporary Meshuggah because of how especially the bass is produced. Overall "Foregone Semblances" is a nice little release by Colosso and while they aren´t the most unique sounding act on the scene, this EP is still worth checking out because of the high quality musicianship, the professional songwriting, and the well sounding production. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
