Genre: instrumental progressive metal
Daniele Liverani is a very productive Italian guitarist who is involved in a plethora of projects and bands (most notably the progressive metal band Twin Spirits). "Eleven Mysteries" is his third solo album and, as you might expect from guitarists releasing solo albums, contains two handfuls of instrumental guitar-driven albums.
Fortunately, Liverani never goes into over-the-top mindless shredding and, although all tracks serve to showcase his incredible skills on the guitar, the backing band is given the respect and attention, it deserves, but in terms of performance (a certain amount of variation is allowed) and production (the backing band is not obscured in the mix by an insanely loud guitar).
The eleven tracks on the album are also quite varied, taking the listener from heavy riff-driven metal over mellow ballads over lushc symphonic metal to funkalicious jazz rock (I especially enjoy the use of slapping and popping bass in the more jazzy and funky parts). All of this is, of course, wrapped in blazing guitar solos and advanced lead guitar techniques, and the obligatory neoclassicisms are also present on the album. Liverani, however, is not afraid to make use of simple and catchy melodies every now and then, making listening to the album a memorable experience.
Fans of guitar heroes and shredding will, of course, love this album, which, I am sure, will also be of interest for fans of progressive metal. In any case "Eleven Mysteries" is one guitarlicious album showcasing the skulls and musicianship of one gifted guitarist.
