"Hate Takes Its Form" is the debut full-length studio album by Danish, Silkeborg based death metal act Dawn of Demise. The album was released through Deepsend Records in September 2007. After Danish death metal act Infernal Torment folded in the late 90s, lead vocalist Scott Jensen teamed up with his brother Bjørn (bass), and assembled a five-piece lineup which would become Dawn of Demise. Dawn of Demise formed in 2003 and released the "...and Blood Will Flow" demo in 2006.
The material on "Hate Takes Its Form" is brutal and groove oriented death metal. There are faster parts, but the music is predominantly heavy and mid-paced with a strong focus on heavy grooves, tempo changes, and fast breaks. I personally dislike the term slam death, but that´s probably what most people would label the music. An old school death metal act like Suffocation is also a major influence though, so this is not purely a contemporary groove oriented death metal release. I hear loads of old school influnces here too (some heavy thrash metal oriented riffs and even a couple of melodic guitar solos) and Dawn of Demise successfully combine their influences into a powerful and brutal sound.
The band are well playing and the tracks are reasonably memorable, although Dawn of Demise aren´t the most original act on the scene. The vocals are for example your typical unintelligible "mouth over mike" type growling, combined with a more aggressive and intelligible but still deep register growling style. But they do what they do with both skill and quality, and "Hate Takes Its Form" is a very solid debut album. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
