The Eye of Horus is the second demo released by Polish death metal act Decapitated. The fact that such a young act had already released a demo in 1997 is an incredible achivement ( the band members where born in 1981, 1983 and 1984). The quality of the songs on The Eye of Horus is an even greater achivement. How the hell such a young band could release such a high quality brutal and technically well played death metal demo is almost beyond me. Of course the trees don´t grow into heaven, and there are some obvious weakneses in the songwriting department, that the band would correct on later releases but still The Eye of Horus is a great release. I could have done without the cover version of Mandatory Suicide by Slayer which feature unsuiting growling vocals, but otherwise the demo is a great experience.
As the case is with the first demo, The Eye of Horus is probably really hard to find in it´s original form, but fortunately Metal Mind Productions released The First Damned compilation album in 2000, which include the tracks from the two demos. The Eye of Horus deserves a 3.0 star rating.
