UMUR
"Reclaiming Harmony" is the debut full-length studio album by Estonia, Tallin based progressive metal act Dreadpin. The album was independently released in May 2016. Dreadpin is a four-pices consisting of Fredy (bass), Kuldar Peedo (drums), Olaf (guitars, vocals), and Allan (guitars, vocals).

Stylistically the music on "Reclaiming Harmony" is progressive metal, but not the type of progressive metal most people associate with that genre description. Instead it´s a combination of death, thrash, and heavy metal delivered with a progressive approach. The album opens with the melodic instrumental "Progenesis", but it´s not representative for the rest of the material featured on the album. It´s not an album which is easy to describe because of the many different influences, but it´s all delivered with great conviction and skill. The vocals vary between clean, semi-raw, and growling vocal styles, and often all types in the same song. I get a feeling of unease while listening to the album, because I simply can´t guess what comes next. And it´s not because the tracks are overtly complex in structure, but they are still pretty unconventional.

The sound production is decent, although the rhythm guitars could have prospered from a bit more punch. All in all "Reclaiming Harmony" is a relatively strong debut release by Dreadpin, and while the songwriting could have been slightly more memorable, it´s still a recommendable release to those interested in an eclectic and different sounding type of progresive metal (it´s not avant garde by any means though, just different). A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
