"Destroyed By Creation" is the debut full-length studio album by UK thrash metal act Elimination. The album was released through Rising Records in April 2010. Elimination was formed in 2005 and have released a couple of demos and the "Welcome To Death Row" EP from 2007 before releasing "Destroyed By Creation".
So the band have had a few years to hone their craft and that is apparent when listening to "Destroyed By Creation". The musicianship is on a high level. A tight rhythm section, aggressive riffing, blazing guitar solos, and a lead vocalist in Neil Stevens that sounds like a slightly more aggressive version of Oderus Urungus (Gwar). This is not "silly fun metal" though, so it´s only a voice comparison. The music on the album is at it´s core US influenced thrash metal, but there are many traditional heavy metal elements in the music too, so "Destroyed By Creation" is not what I would characterize as a "straight" thrash metal release. Actually the traditional heavy metal elements provide the music with an occasional old school speed metal edge.
Whatever tag you´d like to put on their music, the quality of the songwriting is relatively high. The tracks are memorable and powerful and as mentioned above there is stylistic variation on the album. The album is well produced too, so I only have one slight issue with "Destroyed By Creation". At 12 tracks and a full playing time of 62:17 it feels too long for it´s own good. For such a long playing time there are not enough surprises or structural challenges for the listener and I´d say a 40 minutes long playing time would have been more suitable. Despite this slight issue (which probably won´t be an issue to most listeners), "Destroyed By Creation" is still a great thrash/heavy metal release deserving a 3.5 star (70%) rating.
