"End of Society's Sanity" is the debut full-length studio album by German, Bochum based thrash metal act Entophyte. The album was released through Mad Noise Records in 1992. Entophyte formed in 1988 under the Exurist monicker and released the 1989 "In Dead End World" single before changing their name to Entophyte.
Stylistically the material on "End of Society's Sanity" is a semi-progressive and technically well played type of thrash metal (think artists like Deathrow, Toxik, Realm, and Mekong Delta). The vocals are clean and melodic rather than raw and shouting. There´s the occasional use of more raw vocals and even a couple of growling vocals on the album, but those moments are few and far between. Entophyte play some pretty heavy riffs throughout the album but because of the clean vocals, there´s a melodic edge to the songs, which makes them a more dynamic listen. The lead guitar work and the busy energetic drumming also contribute to the dynamics of the album.
"End of Society's Sanity" features a well sounding production job, which suits the material well, and the musicianship is also on a high level on all posts, but the songwriting is lacking more memorable moments. For all the great features of this release, the songwriting is a bit patchy and lacking hooks. The high pitched clean vocals don´t produce many memorable vocal melodies either. So it´s music which is quite entertaining while you listenn to it, but quickly forgotten when the album is over. I´m biased though as there are so many great moments of technical playing on the album, which are greatly entertaining, so a 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating isn´t all wrong.
