Exarsis - The Human Project
"The Human Project" is the third studio album from thrash metal band Exarsis. There has been a slight line-up change since 2013's "The Brutal State", most notably the vocalist which has resulted in change in sound on that end.
Exarsis play old school thrash metal with some really addicting grooves and screaming vocals. Bands that I'm reminded of are Toxik and Helstar especially due to Nick J. Tragakis's vocal style which is a mix of high-pitched screams and lower punk-twinged vocals. While the previous vocalist had a high-pitched screaming style as well, it was more along the lines of bands like Nuclear Assault instead of the more US Power-style screaming.
The aforementioned addicting grooves are what really makes Exarsis stand out to my ears. These guys can thrash and groove just as well. Just take a listen to the song 'Abnormal Generation' and try not to headbang to that groove that opens the song before transitioning nicely into a thrashing riff. Pretty much all the songs have some really great grooves though, so this album is a great way to satisfy both the need for brutal thrashings and catchy grooves. The brutal thrashings are no weaker, especially in the songs 'R.F.I.D.', 'Brutal State', and 'False Flag Attack'. The latter also having some nice grooves.
As you can probably tell from song titles like 'Police Brutality', 'False Flag Attack', and 'Brutal State', "The Human Project" is full of really strong political lyrics. The lyrics range from government corruption, abuse of power, and aliens and U.F.O.'s as featured in 'Arrivals'.
Overall, if you're looking for some addicting old school thrash that's not afraid to really groove, I highly recommend giving "The Human Project" a listen. I also highly recommend it to fans of Toxik and Helstar. Get ready to thrash! Hope you found this review helpful.
