UMUR
"Odes Of The Occult" is the 2nd full-length studio album by Norwegian death metal act Execration. The album will be released in June 2011 by Duplicate Records ( vinyl version is available in the US through Vendlus Records). "Odes Of The Occult" will be limited to 500 copies on 2 x 180g vinyl and a limited CD edition.

The music on the album is a rather eclectic form of death metal. It´s definitely old school at it´s core but it´s obvious Execration is not satisfied with being labelled an old school Norwegian death metal clone. There are nods towards "Soulside Journey (1991)"-era Darkthrone and Cadaver too, but the band also incorporate dissonance, bleak atmosphere and doomy parts in their music. Execration actually vary the pace a lot throughout the album and they master both the death, the doom and the more unconventional dissonant parts very well. The production could have been a bit more powerful but the album has an authentic sound I´m sure many people will enjoy.

"Odes Of The Occult" is definitely an interesting death metal release, and while it doesn´t completely blow me away, it´s worth checking out if you enjoy your death metal with a bit of variation. A 3.5 star rating is warranted.
