The positive pressure of Pantera...
Genre: thrash metal / groove metal
This album "The Positive Influence ... of Pressure" by Italian thrash metal band Extrema is actually okay.
It is basically a sort of Pantera rip-off type of groove metal - especially the vocals are very influenced by Phil Anselmo, but there is also a lot of midtempo Pantera-style heavy, groovy riffage. This is both a good and a bad thing. The good thing is that we are dealing with Pantera-style riffage, and Pantera-style riffage is, per se, a good thing. The bad thing is that Pantera-style riffage had already been made by Pantera themselves, and there really is no need for another band to do that.
That being said, I think that a good number of the groovy riffs om this album sound original. For instance, "To Hell" is certainly not a Pantera rip-off track (if you ignore the vocals) although it is groovy. There are a couple of tracks like that, which is what makes this album okay.
Fans of groove metal might enjoy this album... if they can forgive Extrema for sounding like a second-rate Pantera.
