UMUR
"Emptyhead / No Rule" is a single release by Finnish, Oulu based thrash metal act Faff-Bey. The single was released through Bad Vugum in 1989. Along with the 1988 "S/M Party" EP, the single bridges the gap between the band´s debut- and second full-length studio albums "Back from the Grave" (1988) and "Doesn't Feel like Laughing... (1990)".

Both tracks from the single are exclusive to this release. Stylistically Faff-Bey are still in the more raw end of the thrash metal spectrum, but this single features a slightly more polished sound production than the preceding releases, and as a result the caustic aggression and savage nature of the band´s music is diminished some, while the technical playing has increased. "Emptyhead" is a new original composition while "No Rule" is a cover of Swedish rock band The Leather Nun. The latter is good fun, and a nicely energetic track, which the band obviously enjoy playing.

"Emptyhead / No Rule" is a good quality single release by Faff-Bey. As mentioned above "No Rule" is a well played and entertaining cover song, while "Emptyhead" shows that the band have developed their songwriting since the debut album, and that they have honed their playing skills too. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
