"Lost in a Grave" is an EP release by German death metal act Fleshcrawl. The EP was released through Morbid Records in 1991. Fleshcrawl was formed in 1987 under the Morgöth monicker but changed their name to Suffocation in 1990, to avoid name confusion with their fellow countrymen in Morgoth. For obvious reasons (because of the US Suffocation) they changed their name again to the current one in 1991. "Lost in a Grave" is the band´s debut release.
"Lost in a Grave" is a 2 track, 13:09 minutes long EP featuring an old school death metal style, with both crushingly heavy doom/death metal parts, brutal mid-paced grooves, and the occasional deathgrind blast beat part. So rhythmically the music is fairly varied for the style. Both tracks would be re-recorded and included on the band´s debut full-length studio album "Descend Into the Absurd (1992)". They appear here in more unpolished and raw versions, but this is by no means a bad quality production. In fact it´s a raw, organic, and well sounding production, which suits the material perfectly.
"Lost in a Grave" does what it sets out to do, which is introduce the world to Fleshcrawl. Both tracks on the album are over 6 minutes long, so there is plenty of time for the listener to get a good idea of the musical direction of Fleshcrawl. Since both tracks are included (although in re-recorded versions) on "Descend Into the Absurd (1992)", "Lost in a Grave" is today more of a hardcore fan item, but that doesn´t change the fact that the music featured on the EP is good quality old school death metal and a 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating is deserved.
