UMUR
"Demo 2" is the second demo recording by Danish heavy metal act Force Majeure. The demo was released in 1989 and features one lineup change since the first demo as Tommi Rahm has been added to the lineup as a second guitarist. The band would shortly changed their name to Crime Academy in 1990 after a big lineup shuffle and they recorded one two-track demo under the Crime Academy monicker before changing their name back to Force Majeure. They recorded one last demo as Force Majeure before calling it quits in 1991. The material from all three Force Majeure demos were compiled and released on the "Force Majeure" compilation album in January 2010 through Steel Legacy Records.
Stylistically the material on this second demo continue the sophisticated, melodic, and powerful heavy metal style with nods towards power metal and neo-classical metal, which was initiated on the first demo. Force Majeure are a very well playing band and although lead vocalist Per Onink (ex-Artillery) sometimes sounds a little strained when trying to hit the really high notes, his performance here is still pretty strong.
Compared to the first demo I think this demo is slightly less interesting and production wise is also lacks a bit more power and heaviness to compete with the preceding demo release. It´s still a good quality demo release and fans of sophisticated heavy metal should find loads to appreciate here. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
